Customs seizes ivory at Hamad International Airport (Qatar)

The General Authority of Customs and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment seized a shipment of elephant ivory weighing 310kg at Hamad International Airport.

The shipment had been on its way to an Asian country from an African country (transit).

Mubarak Al Marri, head of wildlife section at Environmental Protection, Nature Reserves and Wildlife Department said they will prepare a detailed report with pictures about the seized shipments. They also will notify the secretariat of the CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

The confiscation of the shipment falls in the framework of cooperation between governments and related to CITES agreements.
