One-day state level training programme on “All India synchronized
elephant population census 2017” was conducted on March 21 at the
Conference Hall of Forest Office Complex, Dimapur.
The programme was to impart basic field training required for the
population census of elephants in the state. The training was
conducted for staffs of Intanki National Park, Singphan Wildlife
Sanctuary, Tuensang Forest Division, Zunheboto Forest Division and
Wildlife Wing to be deputed for the elephant census activitie
Dr. Surendra Varma, research scientist from Indian Institute of
Science, Bangalore and Professor Eishwar N. Mannay from BNMIT,
Bangalore were the resource persons.
The training programme was organised by Wildlife Wing of Nagaland,
Department of Environment, Forest & Climate, Government of Nagaland
and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change,
Government of India. Caroline Angami, IFS, Wildlife warden, Dimapur;
Heneilung, director of Intanki National Park and Samom Khelen Singh,
IFS, Wildlife warden, Kiphire also participated in the training
programme. The resource persons will also be imparting the training to
the staffs of Wokha Forest Division and Mokokchung Forest Division on
March, 22 and 23 respectively.
