HWANGE - Communal farmers here who were being harassed by stray elephants (Pictured) have finally found a natural means to guard against the jumbo menace.
Through the support of Africa Wildlife Conservation, the community has been taught to plant pepper to deter the elephants from inflicting further havoc on their fields.
The coordinator of the project, Givemore Mhlanga, told The Zimbabwean last week that the natural method was the cheapest and most logical means of ensuring protection of the villagers' crop. “The pepper releases a scent which scares away elephants," explained Mhlanga.
