Idukki (Kerala), Jul 28 (PTI) Authorities in Kerala have busted a gang of ivory poachers suspected of killing a young tusker in Kuttampuza Forest Range in Idukki district early this month.

The tusker was killed on July 7 by using a powerful country made gun owned by one of the gang members, Sinoj, who is in his 20s and arrested on Saturday.

The weapon used in the crime has also been recovered from the accused, Martin Lovel, assistant Conservator of Forest, Forest Intelligence Unit Cell, Kerala said.

A case under the Arms Act, 1959, has been filed by the Kerala Police against him. Four of the gang members were already arrested in an undercover operation by the Kerala Forest Department Intelligence Cell on July 16.
