The jumbo scene; another human fatality (Sri Lanka)

A farmer watching his paddy fields was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Monday night (01). The victim Jamaldeen Seeni Mohamed (46) was a father of three children. Villagers said they were living in constant fear of wild elephants roaming into villages at dusk. They said the tragic death of the farmer would be another eye opener to the authorities who have done nothing about the threat of marauding jumbos villagers had been enduring for a long time. The Inquirer of Sudden Deaths, Maminiya Korala, G B D Kumarasinghe who held the inquest at the scene returned a verdict of accidental death caused by a wild elephant attack. The OIC Kekirawa Police Environmental Unit carried out the inquiries.
