RAJBIRAJ: Herd of wild elephants from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve killed an ox at Bakadhuwa today morning.

The attack came when a local was tilling his land, who however, managed to escape unhurt. Following the incident, a joint police team led by the Area Police Office Kanchanpur and Mahuli Police Post had reached the site and chased the tuskers off with the help of locals.

Likewise, on Friday night, the unruly elephants had damaged a house and a shed in Jagatpur VDC and a vegetable plantation over two katthas of land in the village.

Keeping in view the damage wrought by the elephants’ attacks, the administration on Monday had decided to deploy police personnel in Portaha, Barmajhiya, Yoginiya, Bairawa and Fattepur villages.

“After the presence of security bodies, tuskers are moving towards the eastern villages,” said Jogindra Paswan of Jagatpur, adding that, they could not have slept the whole night fearing for their lives.

CDO Hariraj Panta said they have deployed security personnel in the affected areas.
