LUSAKA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Two elephants were electrocuted in southern Zambia's Itezhi-tezhi district when they came into contact with a live power line, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Monday.

The two male elephants got in contact with a live 33 kilo voltage power line, which washanging low following a pole that titled down as a result of wetness of the ground caused by rains, Daily Mail said.

Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Public Relations Officer Wilfred Moonga said the incident happened two weeks ago in a game management area known as Nkala and that the elephants were found dead about two meters from the overhanging live wire.

ZAWA has since removed and secured the elephant tusks and disposed of the carcasses by distributing the meat to the local communities, government departments and non-governmental organizations operating in the district, Daily Mail said.
