Katiba Arero was grazing livestock yesterday at Loisokut area when the animal attacked him.
His father, Arero Kilesi said the boy was chasing after some goats which had gone astray when he turned and saw an elephant charging at him.
“He tried to save his life by running away but he could not equal the speed of the jumbo,” he said. “It grabbed him with its tusk and tossed him up.”
The boy suffered face injuries and a fracture on his left foot. He was taken to Doldol Sub District Hospital by good Samaritans and later transferred to Cottage Hospital, about 60km away.
Kenya Wildlife Service rangers rushed to the scene and shot the jumbo dead. The attack occurs few months after another elephant trampled on an elderly man at Kimanjo area.
County KWS senior warden Richard Chepkwony said his officers are working with the management of the conservancy to repair an electric wire at the ranch to stop elephants from invading residents’ farms.
