Two elephants killed in Valaichenai (Sri Lanka)

Two elephants were killed following an accident involving a train in Valaichenai today, the police in the area said.

According to the Jaffna based Uthayan news website, the train had been heading to Batticaloa from Colombo when it crashed into the elephants which were crossing the track.

The two elephants were thrown away from the track following the accident and succumbed to their injuries.

Wildlife officials said that the elephants were aged 25 and 30 years.
