Another elephant found dead in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj (India)

In less than a week’s time, another elephant was found dead in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The carcass of the male pachyderm was spotted by forest officials inside Similipal Sanctuary this morning.

As per reports, the carcass was found lying near Sijupani brook under Dukura Range in the district. The dead tusker is said to be around 14-15 years.

While the reason of death is yet to be ascertained, the officials suspect the jumbo to have died of anthrax. The officials have sent the body for post-mortem.

Baripada DFO said that they found that blood oozing from the nose of the elephant during spot inquiry which is a typical symptom of anthrax. The officials collected blood samples and will send them for further examination.

On December 9, body of a tusker was found in the Similipal Sanctuary. Forest personnel had confirmed the the elephant had died due to anthrax.
