A 10-day-old baby elephant separated from its herd was reunited with its mother in Kotdwar area of Pauri district, a forest official said today.

The elephant calf got separated from its herd on February 14 and was reunited with its mother last evening near Pulinda road in Kotdwar forest sub-division, SDFO Girish Chand Belwal said.

The elephant was found roaming on Pulinda road when women who had gone to the fields heard its plaintive cries and informed the forest officials, he said.

Though a team of forest officials and vets had traced the missing baby elephant on February 14 evening only, it took them nearly two days to reunite it with its mother.

It was fed canned milk and life saving drugs for two days, Belwal said.
