Elephant Tramples Man To Death (Assam, India)

A 40-year old man was killed by a wild elephant in Assam’s Sonitpur district today, a forest official said here. A wild elephant strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park’s North Range and was walking along the banks of River Brahmaputra at Biswanath Ghat under Biswanath Chariali police station of the district when it came across the man and trampled him to death, Sonitpur divisional forest officer Suvasish Das said. The man was identified as Basha Lal Choudhuri and was suspected not to have seen the elephant due to heavy fog. Later local residents gheraoed the range office demanding protection to the people from wild elephants.
