A 55-year-old farmer was hurled to his death by a lone tusker here in Shoolagiri on Sunday night. The body was found with injuries on Monday morning.

The deceased Kanniappan of Nallegaanakothapalli in Shoolagiri here was guarding his harvested paddy on his field here on Sunday night, when the elephant reportedly attacked him. Kaniappan was found with grievous injuries by his son.

Collision averted

Meanwhile, the driver of a private Volvo bus lost control of the vehicle and rammed a median on the highway when he tried to avert a collision with an elephant crossing the Hosur national highway here in the small hours of Monday. The pachyderm and the passengers were unhurt.
