Jumbo Kills Plantation Worker (India, Idukki)

A plantation labourer was trampled to death by a wild elephant near Pooppara here on Sunday. Rasayya, 60, hailing from Moolathara at Pooppara, was on his way to work in a cardamom plantation at Pooppara with his friends Guru, Ayyar and Daivam when they came across the wild elephant in the jungle. While the others managed to escape, Rasayya was caught by the jumbo which threw him to the floor with its trunk and then trampled him killing him on the spot.His friends brought others to the spot and shooed away the elephant. The Forest Department officials and the Santhanpara Police reached the spot and took action.
