Residents of Mailikumi and Naari in Buuri Sub County, Meru County are a happy lot after they got a chance to feast on elephant meat on Saturday.

The elephant was gunned down by Kenya Wildlife Service waders after it trampled a man and injured him grievously.

The man was, however, rescued before the beast killed him.

After the animal was shot, area resident wasted no time in slaughtering it using power saws, with some transporting the meat in trucks to their homes.

Speaking to the media, the residents lamented that rogue elephants have been damaging their crops and hindering children from going to school in the area.

Meanwhile, there was tension at Kikunduku in Kibwezi Sub County; Makueni County after a woman was killed by an elephant on Sunday morning.

Area residents blocked the road from Kikunduku Primary School to the shopping center and prevented police officers from collecting the woman’s body until the elephant that killed her is put down.
