Sidda episode redux: Jumbo stuck in slush for two days, rescue efforts on (Myusuru, India)

MYSURU: With the rescue of elephant Sidda near Ramangara still fresh in memory, forest officials are at one more operation to pull out an 18-year-old male elephant which is stuck in slush at Malanagakere haadi near Bylakuppe in Periyapatna taluk.

Though the elephant struggled for more than two days to extricate itself from the slush, it come to the notice of the forest personnel patrolling the fringes of Nagarhole forest on Wednesday.

Forest officials have decided to use Dasara elephants from Annechowkur camp to rescue the elephant.

ACF Somappa and RFO Girish who visited the spot said the elephant could not come out of the pond because of a wound in its leg. They expressed confidence of bringing it out soon. Forest officials have also sent veterinary doctors to the spot. 
 
It is said that they may have to use an earthmover to clear the slush and make way for the elephant to reach the bund. DCF Balachandra will visit the spot and will monitor rescue  operation, sources said.
