South Africa: Brits Operation Nets 65 Suspects

The police in Brits Cluster nabbed 65 suspects for various offences during an operation from Friday, 29 April 2016 to Sunday, 1 May 2016.

From the total arrested, 19 were apprehended for possession of drugs including combined 9 grams of cocaine as well as KAT, five for drunken driving, four for non-compliance of liquor act, one for possession of stolen property, one for possession of elephant tusks, one for public indecency, five for illegal gambling, one for illegal possession of ammunition, four for traffic related offenses. During the operation s total of 24 fines were issued for liquor related offences including drinking in public and dealing in liquor.

Most of the suspects are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Courts today.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane appreciated the commitment of members that resulted into these successes. She said that the police together with other role players will continue with operations of this nature to ensure that communities are and feel safe.
