A 40-year-old tusker was found dead inAnechowkuru in Nagarahole National Park near Hunsur on Tuesday.
Forest staff who were patrolling near Bedarakuppa plantation near Ganaguru division found the dead elephant. They immediately informed the park director S Manikandan, ACF Prasanna Kumar who visited the spot. Veterinarian Dr Umashankar conducted the postmortem. Speaking to TOI, Manikandan said that the veterinarian has collected the microbiological samples to ascertain the cause of death.
The elephant had been bleeding in the left ear which may be due to rubbing the ear to the ground.
Prima facie evidence points to a natural death, but the exact cause of death will be known only after receiving the forensic report, he said.
