Tuskers claimed their first victim of the year in Giridih when an elephant killed 50-year-old Dauraj Saw at Manihari village in Birni block here on Saturday.

Saw went out his house around 5 am to attend natural’s call when an elephant attacked him. Local villagers staged an agitation, demanding compensation to the dependent of the deceased. The forest department gave Rs50,000 to the family on Saturday and promised to give Rs2 lakh more later.
