SALEPUR: A tusker, after being separated from its herd, strayed into Kuspangi village under Oranda gram panchayat and created panic among the locals late on Saturday.
The tusker broke the wall near Padmalabh Rout’s house and killed his bullock by piercing its ivory into the belly. After killing bullock, the tusker made its way into the village.
The tusker then turned its attention towards a villager Jadumani Pradhan (65) who had come out of his house. It lifted him with its trunk and threw him on the ground injuring him critically. The tusker then went back to the forest before the day dawned.
The villagers on Sunday staged a road blockade on NH-55 near Kuspangi demanding adequate compensation to the injured Jadumani and also to Padmalabh, the owner of the bullock.
The road blockade, which continued for four hours, was lifted after Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) RK Das and Tangi-Choudwar SDPO Sudam Charan Sahoo assured them that compensation will be provided to the victims.
