ERODE: A 55-year-old woman was trampled to death by a tusker near Sathyamangalam in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night.
K Masathal (55) of Punjai Puliyampatty village and her son were going by foot to the Bannari Amman Temple in Sathyamangalam when the lone tusker trampled her to death, forest officials said. The incident happened near Bhavanisagar.
The tusker roamed in the area, and the devotees to the Bannari Amman Temple blocked the National Highway NH 209 demanding that forest officials ensure their safety. Vehicular traffic had been disrupted for an hour following the protest.
The protesters dispersed when forest officials assured them that they would chase the tusker away.
