Bhubaneswar: A tusker damaged houses and crops in Jalibadi village under Nilgiri forest range in Balasore district on Wednesday early morning.

According to information, the tusker belonging to a herd of around 70 elephants came to the village in the wee hours of Wednesday and wrecked havoc. It damaged many houses in the village apart from trampling paddy plants on the agricultural field.

A team of forest officials have pushed the tusker into the nearby jungle, reports said.

The elephant herd came from neighbouring Jharkhand and has been into the Nilgiri area since December 4 and some of them have many times entered the village and wrecked havoc. While people of the area are in a state of panic, forest officials have not been able to drive them back.
