Two trampled to death by elephant (Gazipur, India)

Two women were trampled to death by an elephant in the jungles of Gazipur under Joypur forest range in Bankura district today, forest department officials said. 

Jharna Midda (46) and Malati Sardar (48) had gone to the forest to collect firewood, when an elephant trampled them to death, said forest department official Subhas Midda. 

On getting information from the villagers, the bodies were retrieved and sent for post-mortem at the Bishnupur Sub-Divisional Hospital. 

Compensation would be paid to the kins of the victims as per law, the forest official said.
