The Centre for Wildlife Studies under the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University, in association with Department of Forest and Wildlife is organising an international veterinary workshop on Asian elephant and tiger at the university headquarters at Pookode from Monday to Thursday.
The workshop will address veterinary interventions such as general elephant and tiger health, diagnosis, medical and surgical management, and epidemiology, organisers said in a release here.
Various wildlife issues, including wildlife health from the ecosystem perspective and topics such as disease spill-over from humans and livestock to wildlife, emerging diseases and disease prevalence, and reducing stress in the environment will be discussed .
Special emphasis would be given to human tiger and human elephant conflict. Methods of chemical immobilisation and translocation of tigers and elephants would be presented by experts.
Delegates from India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand, as well as veterinarians from U.K., U.S., and Russia would attend the programme.
