Jumbos stray into Gajapati village (Gajapati district, India)

BERHAMPUR: Panic has gripped residents of Narayanpur under Mahendra forest range in Gajapati district for the last three days are as a herd of seven elephants has strayed into the outskirts of the village.

The herd, consisting of a tusker, two calves and four females, enters the village during the daytime and wreaking havoc on crops. The villagers are scared to come out of their houses after dark due to the movement of the jumbos.

“Forest officials and elephant trackers are keeping a vigil on their movement,” said DFO Rohit Kumar Singh.
