COIMBATORE: A six -year- old female elephant was found dead in Sathyamangalam forest in Erode district. Forest officials suspect that the elephant would have drowned after geeting trapped in a jungle strem. On Saturday evening, a team of forest officials from Sathyamangalam range were patrolling to prevent poaching in the forest. They found dead female elephant in a stream at Pathimaduvu area at Ekkathur beat in Sathyamanagalam range. Forest ranger G Johnson and team rushed to the area along with veterinarian Sadasivam. “The female elephant was washed away from the reserve forest in the flash flood after heavy rain the area and it was found in stream.The veterinarian conducted the post mortem on the spot,” said Johnson. He also added that the elephant was not able to withstand the flash flood. “We took away the elephant carcass from the water and kept in the outside of the stream. The wild animals will eat the carcass of the elephant,” said Johnson.
