Seven people have been arrested in connection with elephant poaching in the Lower Zambezi Park.
The seven were arrested by the officers in the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
Ministry of Tourism and Arts Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe says the suspects had loaded elephant tusks on a speedboat before being arrested.
Mr. Kalembwe says the speed boat immediately took off into the deep waters of the Zambezi upon realising the presence of officers from the DNPW.
He says the suspects were later cornered by wildlife officers.
Mr. Kalembwe said this in statement made available to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Arts has announced that Department of National Parks and Wildlife staff whose salaries were delayed have been paid.
