In just a gap of a week’ time or less, a human is being killed in elephant attack somewhere else in Odisha jungles. Anybody who reads a newspaper regularly knows it, no doubt.

Adding to the rising number, another such incident has occurred in Kamakshyanagar forest range area on Thursday early morning. The deceased was identified as Rajendra Hembram of Bandania village under the range in Dhenkanal district.

According to information, Rajendra had been to the nearby jungle to collect mushroom when a pachyderm attacked him. Rajendra was trampled to death by the wild animal.

Some villagers saw his body lying in the jungle and informed the forest officials, who have reached the spot and recovered the body.

“The body will be sent for post-mortem. On availing the report, compensation would be provided to the family as per Government guidelines,” said a forest official.

It may be noted that many cases of such deaths from jungles of Angul, Athagarh and Kamakshyanagar have been reported in recent weeks.
