A day after capturing a rampaging elephant, Forest Department officials trapped yet another wild tusker on Friday evening.
The authorities received permission to trap the second elephant on Friday morning following reports that it had killed a plantation worker near Bhootanakadu in Kushalanagar range of Madikeri forest division a few days ago. The incident had resulted in a snap stir by the local community which forced the authorities to act on the elephant menace.
The forest personnel, led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Chinnappa and veterinarian Umashankar, combed the region and identified the elephant late in the evening near Karekolli in Madikeri division. They fired a dart from close range and tranquilised the elephant before tethering it with ropes and mounting it onto a rescue truck.
