Carcasses of two elephants were found in a field near Kushapangi forest under Athagarh Forest Division in Odisha’s Cuttack district this morning.

According to reports, local villagers found the bodies of a female elephant and a calf near the forest. The villagers informed the forest officials about the incident.

Notably, the bodies were found few meters away from each other raising suspicion over their deaths.

As the bodies were found in a farm field and there are no electric wires nearby, the reason of death was unclear.

Officials said that the reason of death would be ascertained after post-mortem report is received.

Cuttack City DFO, Athagarh DFO and Ranger of Khuntuni Forest Range reached the spot for investigation.
