A Chinese citizen fell into the hands of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) and Customs for alleged illegal possession of lion’s claws and teeth, as well as objects of art made from ivory tips, A Verdade reports.

The 44-year-old man was arrested at Maputo International Airport, on his way to Qatar.

The objects were transported in a suitcase, wrapped and covered by several mobile phones, reads the same source. Police officers reportedly believe that they may have been obtained through people who engage in poaching.

“There are several points in the national territory where there are individuals who engage in poaching. These pieces are believed to have been “procured from these people,” the Maputo PRM spokesman , Orlando Mudumane is cited as saying.
