SHENYANG: Customs authorities in the city of Shenyang, capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province, have seized 104 ivory products in the first quarter this year, according to local customs.

Authorities have also seized 208 pieces of red coral and its products, along with other smuggled items, which are used to make art, jewelry, and tableware.

The customs will keep taking comprehensive and strict measures to crack down on smuggling cases involving ivory and other items of endangered species, said Sun Licheng, deputy head of the anti-smuggling bureau of Shenyang customs.

The Chinese government suspended imports of ivory and all ivory products in 2015 and ended commercial processing and sales of ivory at the end of 2017.
