A 30-year-old female elephant was found lying near a temple in Thadagam in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The wild elephant was suffering from some ailments.

On being informed by the local people about the elephant, forest officials reached the spot.

District forest officer S Ramasubramanian, who visited the spot, said the elephant was found on a patta land near the Anubhavi temple. Owner of the land found the elephant standing there on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, it fell and was lying on its side.

“When we reached the spot, forest veterinary doctor Manoharan and another doctor Jayanthi began administering medicines to revive it. But it looked extremely exhausted and was unable to stand despite several efforts,” said the DFO. “There were no external injuries,” said DFO.

“It is in a very critical situation. We are doing our best to improve its health condition,” said a forest officer.
