Edamalayar Poaching Case: One More Key Accused Hospitalised (India)

While allegations on custodial torture and hospitalisation under Forest officials were already running high, one more key accused in the Edamalayar elephant poaching case was admitted to Muvattupuzha General Hospital on Wednesday, the day on which three more elephant carcasses were recovered from Vazhachal forest area. The carcasses recovered were reportedly of the elephants gunned down by the poaching gang led by Aikkaramuttom Vasu, who was later found hanging in a farmhouse.According to the Forest officials, Aji Bright was the 12th accused in the case, and was hospitalised for medical treatment on Wednesday. Earlier, three other accused in the case, Prinston Silva, Sukumaran and Manoj, were admitted to hospital for treatment reportedly after getting injured in the Forest Department custody. However, Aji’s relatives said that he was hospitalised after he suffered some serious injuries on his spinal code while he was in the custody.The hospital authorities while refused to reveal any details of his treatment, the Regional Medical Officer said that Aji had sought treatment in a private hospital two days ago and was discharged on Wednesday.
