Solar-powered electric wire fencing has been set up to prevent wild
elephant menace at Baduwal in the neighbourhood of Dodhara Chandani
Municipality in Kanchanpur district.
The solar-energy based electric fencing was installed in the area
covering four kilometres with support from Shuklaphanta Wildlife
Reserve to minimise the losses incurred by the wild tuskers that stray
into the human settlement, according to Chief Conservation Officer,
Ved Kumar Dhakal.
“Every year the elephants coming from the Indian forest at Baduwal,
which borders India, have been destroying crops and vegetation, so we
believe setting up the electric fence will help minimise the damages,”
Dhakal said.
