A 10-month-old elephant calf was found dead in a water body today at Uttar Maharanipur area under Kalayanpur police station in Khowai of West Tripura.
Forest officials said the calf had drowned to death.It is believed that the jumbo calf might have strayed away from its herd last night and started moving here and there.
It accidentally fell into a lake at Baishnabtilla area and died. In the morning villagers spotted the pachyderm and informed the forest officials who recovered the body.
Only two days ago in a nearby village, a 45-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant.
