An elephant calf, which had fallen into a deep canal while quenching its thirst, was rescued by locals near Janisahi on Wednesday. Sources said an elephant along with her calf had strayed out of a nearby forest in search of water. While attempting to drink water, they slipped into a six-foot deep canal.
However, the mother elephant managed to crawl out of the canal. The calf was later rescued by forest staff with assistance from the villagers.
