A 15-year-old male elephant was found dead today in a private estate
in Valparai in the district.
Workers of the cardamom estate complained of a foul smell emanating
from the area, following which forest officials searched the place and
recovered the carcass.
Forest Department officials said its veterinarian N S Manoharan
carried out an autopsy on the elephant.
They said injury marks were found on the deceased pachyderm, which
indicated it might have died after a fight with another elephant.
