A female elephant was found dead in a jungle under Karanjia range in
Mayarbhunaj district late on Thursday evening.
According to information, some villagers of Batesahi first saw the
jumbo lying dead in a field and informed Karanjia forest officials.
Though exact reason of death of the elephant was yet to be
ascertained, forest officials said the cause of death would be known
after post-mortem.
It may be noted that two elephants had been found dead in Similipal
area under the same district a week ago. Similarly, an ailing tusker
had been recovered from Prabhasuni forest reserve area in Deogarh
district.
