Midnapore: A female elephant was found dead at Thuria village in West Midnapore district on Thursday, forest officials said.
The carcass was spotted by villagers this morning, who then informed the forest department.
Forest officials reached the spot and sent the carcass for post-mortem.
An inquiry has been initiated to know the cause of death, they said.
