A forest watcher died after being attacked by a tusker in Anekal range of Bannerghatta National Park on Tuesday. The deceased, Ramaiah (45), was from Kanve Shivapura village. Sunil Pawar, chief conservator of forests, BNP, told The Hindu that a group of five watchers had been on a patrol when a lone tusker attacked Ramaiah and trampled him to death. He said that the other staffers are safe. The situation turned tense after the incident with villagers demanding that the Forest Department prevent further attacks. The region has seen a spike in man-elephant conflict. On June 16, a woman succumbed to injuries after being attacked in the safari area of the nearby Bannerghatta Biological Park. On June 28, a farmer was killed on the Kanve Shivapura forest road.
