Four people were injured, two critically, when a bus they were travelling in hit an elephant in Mtito Andei area on Tuesday.

Voi OCPD Leonard Kimaiyo said the two passengers who were not seriously injured were treated at Moi hospital and discharged.

The elephant died after it was hit by the bus that was heading from Mombasa to Nairobi.

In an accident in the area in December 2015, a man was burned to death when a lorry he was driving to Nairobi collided with an oil tanker and burst into flames.

The driver of the tanker, who escaped before the burst a few kilometres from Voi town, said there were two people in the lorry but police said only one man died.

The driver of the Nairobi-bound lorry had earlier hit another lorry while reportedly speeding and overtaking. The other vehicle rolled several times and lost its tyres.
