SUNDARGARH: A female elephant, which was under treatment for the last three weeks at Sanjolo of Kuliposh range under Bonai forest division in the district, died on Wednesday due to suspected septicemia.

The elephant, aged about 40 years, was found with a wound on its leg and the animal’s movement was restricted.

Despite efforts of veterinary doctors and forest officials, the wound did not heal. Bonai Sub-Divisional Forest Officer, Sudhanshu Sekhar Khara informed that the elephant was under treatment for over three weeks.

To save the animal, the wound was operated a fortnight back at the spot. He said the elephant died of septicemia due to the wound and autopsy of the carcass would be conducted on Thursday.
