Ivory Suspect Kills Himself in Police Cell (South Africa)

JOHANNESBURG – A man arrested for the illegal possession of ivory has committed suicide while in police custody, while five of his accomplices will make a court appearance today.
 
Three of those taken into custody are police offices and linked to the detective branch of the Hillbrow police station.
 
The group is facing charges of corruption and the illegal possession of ivory.
 
Police arrested the men outside the police station while the transaction was underway.
 
The officers were caught red handed with the elephant tusk.
 
The police’s Neville Malila they will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate court.
 
“One of them committed suicide. He hanged himself in the cells. IPID has been informed and are conducting their own investigation into the matter. The rest will appear in court today.”
