A 15-year-old female elephant was on Wednesday found dead at Bhavanisagar reserve forest near Kothamangalam in Erode district. The cause of death was yet to be identified by veterinary doctors attached to district forest department.
According to Erode district forest officials, the elephant could have developed stomach ailment on Tuesday morning and succumbed to illness. “Some villagers found the carcass of an elephant in Bhavanisagar reserve forest area and informed us. We immediately reached the spot,” said forest officials. They have done autopsy and later buried the carcass in the forest area.
