SRIKAKULAM:  Yet again elephants wreaked havoc in the Chintamanuguda village of Kotturu mandal of Srikakulam district Wednesday. A similar incident was reported last week when a herd of elephants charged a paddy-laden lorry in the agency.

In the latest incident, a herd of four elephants wreaked havoc after straying into Chitamanuguda village Wednesday and completely damaged a wall of a house. The family members of the house took to their heels to save themselves. Scared, some villagers locked themselves up, while others ran for their lives. On intimation, the forest officials and police team collected the details of the incident and enquired about the losses. The locals alleged that in spite of many complaints to save them from the elephant menace, the forest officials had been ignoring their pleas. In some cases, farmers even lost their crops because of the jumbo menace.
