Karnataka: Elephant attacks bike, tramples student to death (Madikeri, India)

A 19-year-old girl died immediately after being trampled to death by
an elephant and her brother sustained minor injuries when she was on
her way to college on Friday morning near Tithimathi, Virajpet taluk
in Karnataka.

Safana Mustafa, a second year B Com student at Cauvery Women’s
College, Gonikoppal, and Zakir were on a scooter when they saw a wild
elephant blocking the road. Zakir panicked and both of them fell on
the road before the elephant trampled her to death, say sources.

Soon after the incident, villagers of Devarapura and surrounding areas
staged a protest against wild elephant menace.
