POLICE officers in Kieni West subcounty have arrested a suspected poacher and recovered two pieces of elephant tusks in Kiandagoro village. Police laid an ambush in the suspect’s home on Saturday. His two accomplices escaped.

Kieni West police boss Kipruto Kemboi said his officers acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence reports from the Kenya Wildlife Service officers. He said his officers were informed that there were people marketing elephant tusks in a home on the boarder of Nyeri and Nyandarua counties.

Kemboi said the jumbo is approximately aged between eight and 10 years. He said poaching in the region has reduced. Kemboi said they suspect the poachers gunned down the elephant as four gunshots were heard in the village. The suspect will be arraigned in court after investigations, he said.
