Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya has deported more than 20 foreigners for involvement in drug trafficking, human trafficking, ivory trade, pornography, credit card fraud and arms trafficking.

The foreigners were deported in a week long operation that came in the wake of Garissa University terror attack that left at least 148 people dead.

Those deported include nine Nigerians, six Guineans, three Ethiopians, three Germans, two Chinese, one Ukrainian among others.

“Many others are being profiled at various stations and would be deported soon,” said a senior government official aware of the operation.

The official said the Government has embarked on a massive deportation exercise aimed at ridding the country of foreign nationals involved in various forms of organized crime.

Another source said the deportation will boost the war against terrorism since proceeds accrued from most of these organized crimes are used to finance terrorism.

Meanwhile the hunt is on for two drug trafficking fugitives currently holed up in the country.

Officials said Emmanuel Inobemhe, a Nigerian national was previously deported in June, 2013. He managed to sneak back to Kenya and was arrested in possession of heroin, taken to court and released on bond.

Said Ally Juma is a Tanzanian national who was arrested in 2014 for trafficking one kilogram of heroin. He was also freed on bond and is at large.

The government has also put on notice all foreigners found to be engaging in any form of organized crime citing the links between organized crime and terror financing.

Terrorists attacked Garissa University and killed 148 among them 142 students before they were killed in a day long incident.

More than 12 of those killed are yet to be identified so far.  More than 100 students and six police officers were injured in the siege.

So far six suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack as burials for the victims are being organized.
