Kenya: Man Allegedly Caught With 3kgs of Ivory Released On Sh800,000 Bond

A Middle aged man was on Monday released on a bond of Sh800, 000 with a surety of the same amount by a Nyahururu court for illegally possessing elephant tusks.
 
Mosses Lemoshen pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Alice Mukenga.
 
Lemoshen is accused of being found in possession of elephant tusks weighing three Kgs on Saurday with with a street value of Sh 500,000.
 
The second count stated that he was involved in illegal trade of wildlife trophies without a permit from the KWS.
 
The court heard that the accused was found carrying the ivory in a bag by KWS officers who had been tipped off by members of the public.
 
He was arrested and taken to Rumuruti police station where he was charged with the offences.The hearing is set for May 13 with a mention on February 26.
